Title IX for Thee but Not for a He

You would think that after decades of Title IX enforcement, sex discrimination in school sports would be a thing of the past. But this isnt the case in Suffolk County, New York, where a skilled student-athlete is being denied the right to compete in sports based solely on sex. The child is 13-year-old Keeling Pilaro, who for the last two years has been a member of Southampton High School girls field hockey team. He tried out for it and was allowed to play because there are no boys field hockey teams anywhere in the county. So whats the problem now?...

Obamas Sordid High School Past
Posted by admin / Under School Of Photovoltaic And Renewable Energy Engineering
While the Washington Post has been diligently digging into relatively innocent high school pranks by Mitt Romney, theyve spent the last few years diligently ignoring President Obamas far more controversial high school days. Obama, by all accounts, was a habitual drug user in high school. He tried cocaine, he admits in Dreams From My Father; he tried drugs enthusiastically. The Chicago Tribune reported back in 2007 that Obama thanked the Choom Gang in his high school yearbook; chooming was Hawaiian slang for smoking pot. The Honolulu Advertiser reported that Obamas senior portrait prominently displayed A package of Zig-Zag rolling...

PHILADELPHIA - New federal regulations require healthier lunches in schools next year. USDA undersecretary Audrey Rowe lunched on chicken salad yesterday with kids at the Roberto Clemente Middle School. Rowe was in town to highlight new school lunch nutrition standards that take effect in the fall. We will be expanding on the amount of fruits and vegetables offered to the children. Obviously, even though the products are going to be prepackaged, theyre going to be healthier. With the new requirements, comes a modest 6-cent-per meal increase in federal reimbursements.

Teacher Upset She Can't Retire at 47

Terri List says she would tell her students not to become a teacher in Michigan. Why? One of the reasons is because the Saginaw Township Community School District English teacher wont be able to retire at age 47 as she has hoped. List was highlighted by the Michigan Education Association as one of the critics of Senate Bill 1040, which would require public school employees to contribute at least 5 percent of their compensation to their retirement plan. The MEA reported on its website: "Saginaw Township teacher Terry (sic) List had hoped to retire in the next three years when...

"Apparently, many students don't like the idea of redistribution - but, only when it applies to their grades. Redistribution of their GPAs (grade point averages) to poorer students, they say, is unfair. But, those with lower grades dont seem to mind benefiting from the hard work of their greedy high-achieving classmates."

The Teachers' Union has defied the State and refuses to allow evaluations. This all comes to you compliments of a debt based monetary system, which acts to perpetuate corrupt government schemes and ensures that union members get to line their pockets at retirement time, sometimes after just 25 years or less. New York will be completely insolvent in a very short time and will have to rely upon the Federal government to print...

Swedens New Gender-Neutral Pronoun: HenA country tries to banish gender.

To those who feel gender equality or gender neutrality ought to be intrinsic to a modern society, it probably makes sense to argue for instilling such values at an early age. The Green Party has even suggested placing "gender pedagogues" in every preschool in Stockholm, the Swedish capital, who can act as watchdogs. But of course toddlers cannot weigh arguments for and against linguistic interventions and they do not conceive of or analyze gender roles in the way that adults do. Ironically, in the effort to free Swedish children from so-called normative behavior, gender-neutral proponents are also subjecting them to...

The Michigan Education Associations newest strategy is to portray their teachers as underpaid while hoping no one is paying attention to the figures they are using to make their case, says one education policy expert. Clearly, their facts are not straight, said Michael Van Beek, education policy director at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. It started when Steve Cook, the MEAs president, said in a Detroit News op-ed that one teacher who contacted him was in his second year of teaching with a masters degree and made $31,000 a year. Michigan Capitol Confidential looked at the contracts of the...
